Generative Table Setting no. 2
Inspired by the generative music and 'oblique' composition techniques of Brian Eno, this tea set connects (nearly) wirelessly to an external computer program and produces music that changes based on the position and presence and absence of its parts, creating an evolving ambient soundtrack to a meal. The design is practical as well as aesthetically-driven--an accompanying wooden box houses not only the interface between tea set and computer but also controls for an adjustable timer that further affects the music when active and intuitively resets when the teapot is interacted with, allowing for a more creative way to measure brewing times. In addition to its displayed musical purpose, the interface is highly modular and sends general-purpose signals, allowing it to be used as a unique control interface limited only by the computer it is connected to, as well.
